Formed in 2000 in Santos (SP), Rygel is confirmed for Bangers Open Air, bringing to the festival a sound that combines heaviness, technique, and melody. Currently composed of Wanderson Barreto (vocals and guitar), Vandré Nascimento (guitar), Matheus Manhães (bass and backing vocals), and Pedro Colangelo (drums), the group has built a trajectory marked by the constant search for new possibilities within heavy metal, bringing traditional elements closer to thrash metal and prog metal influences.
The name Rygel refers to Rigel, one of the brightest stars in the Orion constellation. Their discography began with the EP "A Long Way To..." (2004), followed by the albums "Realities... Life As It Is" (2009) and "Imminent" (2012), which helped establish the group in the national scene. Throughout this period, the quartet participated in festivals such as Araraquara Rock and Beholder Fest, in addition to sharing the stage with important names in Brazilian metal. In 2014, they also took part in an official Brazilian tribute to Helloween with a version of "Before the War", a work that drew attention for its original arrangements and earned Rygel a mention in the German group's official biography.
The release of "Revolution" in 2015 marked a new stage in Rygel's trajectory, with a more modern and aggressive approach. This transformation continued in "Darkened" (2018), an album that consolidated a heavier and more rhythmic sound. In 2024, the group released "Chronicles", their fifth studio album, reaffirming their ability to reconcile their musical roots with new artistic directions. During this evolution, Rygel also shared stages with names like Korzus, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Noturnall, expanding their presence in the Brazilian scene.
The next step will be "404", their sixth studio album and the group's first entirely conceptual work, scheduled for release in October 2026. The record addresses social media addiction and the conflict between real and virtual identity through the story of a protagonist whose idealized version on the internet gains autonomy and begins to control his thoughts. Developed from different perspectives, including that of the avatar itself, the narrative explores the mechanisms of manipulation and dependence in the digital environment. At Bangers Open Air, Rygel brings to the audience the experience of over two decades dedicated to the renewal of national heavy metal, without letting go of the heaviness and personality that define their identity.
