W.A.S.P.

How about checking out W.A.S.P.’s debut album performed in full at Bangers Open Air 2025? Yes, the American band, currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of their classic debut with the “Album ONE Alive!”, will make a triumphant return to Brazil as a co-headliner of the festival, performing legendary tracks from their acclaimed first album and other anthems from their extensive career.

Their debut, “W.A.S.P.”, became a cornerstone of the 1980s metal scene, revealing a band that aimed to shock. “It was an album made by an angry band. It not only reflected the attitude of the band members but also the spirit of the time,” said Blackie Lawless.

Formed in 1982, the band currently features mastermind and leader Blackie Lawless (vocals and guitar), Doug Blair (guitar), Mike Duda (bass), and a drummer well-known to Brazilian fans, Aquiles Priester (Edu Falaschi, Hangar, Angra, Noturnall, and others).

To carve out their place in the highly competitive music scene at that time, W.A.S.P. delivered a powerful mix of hard rock and heavy metal, an electrifying stage presence in the best shock rock tradition, provocative lyrics, and music videos playing on MTV. In short, they had the full package! Instead of confetti, they showered the audience with chicken feathers, along with pyrotechnics and blood. While most bands threw guitar picks and drumsticks to the crowd, W.A.S.P. hurled raw, bloody meat. “We like to play really loud and incorporate elements beyond just the music,” Lawless told Roadie Crew magazine.

Even before the album’s release on August 17th, 1984, W.A.S.P. was already viewed as an enemy by conservative sectors of American society due to the single “Animal (Fuck Like A Beast).” As a result, in 1985, the band was included in the infamous Filthy Fifteen list by the Parents Music Resource Center. But this was exactly what they wanted—if the committee aimed to “protect” conservative families’ children from “musical assaults” like heavy metal, W.A.S.P. wanted to stand out and “be somebody” “I Wanna Be Somebody”, is the title of one of their most promoted tracks from the debut, alongside “L.O.V.E. Machine,” “Hellion,” “Sleeping (In the Fire),” “On Your Knees,” “Tormentor,” and “The Torture Never Stops.”
