Currently promoting their fourth studio album, “I Am That Power” (2024), the Rio de Janeiro-based Hatefulmurder has been tearing up the metal scene for over a decade. The band is formed by Angélica Burns (vocals), Renan Campos (guitar), Felipe Modesto (bass), and Thomás Martin (drums).
The band’s creative process follows a simple yet powerful philosophy: “We play what we love to listen to. In “I Am That Power”, Hatefulmurder introduces orchestral arrangements by Celo Oliveira, which add a layer of depth and elegance to their signature sound. While the album isn’t conceptual, the tracks flow seamlessly into one another, with lyrics delving deep into the darker side of human emotions, exploring the transition between good and evil. The album features ten tracks, mostly in English, except for “Crime & Castigo”, a track written by Renan Campos and Angélica Burns, inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel. The song carries a nihilistic first-person narrative.
One of the band’s standout releases is “Reborn” (2019), an album funded entirely through crowdfunding by the fans. In December 2019, Hatefulmurder embarked on a tour through the South and Southeast of Brazil to promote the album, followed by another tour in August 2023 after the pandemic. Prior to Reborn, their album Red Eyes (2017) marked the first release featuring Angélica Burns on vocals and took the band on an extensive 24-show national tour, making it one of the biggest independent metal tours in Brazil.
No Peace (2014), their first international release, launched the band on a global stage with performances in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile. From the underground to the main stage, Hatefulmurder will continue to showcase their raw power at Bangers Open Air 2025.
