EMPEROR

Bangers Open Air 2027 will feature among its major acts one of the most important bands in black metal history: Emperor. Formed in Telemark, Norway, in the early 1990s, the group became one of the main driving forces behind the genre's evolution, helping to define what became known as symphonic black metal through a unique combination of aggression, orchestral elements, musical complexity, and grand atmospheres.

Emperor's journey began in 1991 as a trio formed by Ihsahn (vocals and guitar), Samoth (initially on drums), and Mortiis (bass). The band's first release, the demo "Wrath of the Tyrant" (1992), quickly drew attention within the underground scene and paved the way for a record deal with Candlelight Records. With the addition of drummer Bård "Faust" Eithun and Samoth moving to guitar, Emperor entered a phase that would permanently transform the extreme metal landscape.

The release of their debut album, "In the Nightside Eclipse," in 1994, elevated the band to a new level, establishing the record as one of the most influential black metal albums of all time and a foundational work for extreme metal. Their status was solidified with "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" (1997), widely regarded as one of the genre's greatest masterworks. More ambitious and complex, it pushed the boundaries of black metal by blending speed, heaviness, intense vocals, and majestic arrangements, earning widespread international acclaim.

In the following years, Emperor continued to expand their sound with works such as "IX Equilibrium" (1999), which further explored their progressive and symphonic influences, and "Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise" (2001), the band's final studio album before their initial split. The album marked a more experimental phase and confirmed the group as one of the most creative and visionary formations in black metal.

After announcing the end of their activities in 2001, the phrase "The Emperor is dead, long live the Emperor" summed up the lasting impact left by the band. Even while absent from the recording studio for decades, Emperor's legacy grew over the years, influencing new generations of musicians and maintaining strong demand for live performances. In 2005, the group surprised fans by announcing their return for special reunion shows. Since then, they have performed select dates at major international festivals, including appearances at Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, and other prominent events.

Emperor's relationship with the Brazilian audience gained a special chapter in 2022, when the band finally carried out their first Latin American tour, playing to sold-out crowds in countries like Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia. Now, it is time for them to take the stage at a major festival: Bangers Open Air 2027!
