Amon Amarth, one of the leading names in melodic death metal, is confirmed for Bangers Open Air 2027. Formed in 1992 in Tumba, Sweden, the band built an international trajectory marked by heavy riffs, striking melodies, and lyrics inspired by Norse mythology, Viking sagas, and stories of battles, sacrifice, and overcoming.
Over more than three decades, the quintet formed by Johan Hegg (vocals), Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg (guitars), Ted Lundström (bass), and Jocke Wallgren (drums) consolidated its position in the international scene with albums like "Versus the World" (2002), "Fate of Norns" (2004), "With Oden on Our Side" (2006), and "Twilight of the Thunder God" (2008). The discography also includes "Jomsviking" (2016), "Berserker" (2019), and "The Great Heathen Army" (2022), works that reinforced the band's musical identity and expanded its reach with the public.
International recognition includes first place on the German charts with "Jomsviking" and "Berserker", in addition to the highlight of "The Great Heathen Army" on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart in the United States. Known for the strength of their live performances, the band also helped popularize The Row, a collective movement in which fans simulate the oars of a Viking ship during shows, in a scene reminiscent of the coordinated mobilization of the Swedish fans at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The current phase is marked by "The Allfather Awakens", the group's 13th studio album, released in 2026. Recorded in two stages at producer Jacob Hansen's studio in Denmark, the work was developed with an approach that prioritized the individual construction of each track. Among the highlights are "Gjallarhorn", with striking riffs and a fast pace, "Eight Legs of Thunder", inspired by Sleipnir, Odin's horse, and "Upphaf", the first acoustic composition of their career.
Inspired by the figure of Odin, the record brings together epic narratives related to Norse mythology, without constituting a conceptual album. The new phase is also reflected in the production of the shows, with a stage set inspired by Odin's legendary golden hall. At Bangers Open Air 2027, Amon Amarth promises to present to the Brazilian audience the combination of heaviness, grandiose melodies, and Viking themes that transformed them into a reference in melodic death metal.
