The band Lacrimosa was formed in 1990 by German musician Tilo Wolff, who, at just 17 years old, set out to bring new life to his poems and stories through music. The foundation of his career was built on the albums “Angst” (1991), “Einsamkeit” (1992), and “Satura” (1993). Four years later, he met Finnish artist Anne Nurmi, formerly of the band Two Witches, whose collaboration reshaped Lacrimosa’s sound, beginning with “Inferno” (1995).
The gothic rock band predominantly uses the German language in their songs. Although English translations are always available in the album booklets, many fans from foreign countries, including Brazil, may find it difficult to fully understand the lyrics. Tilo Wolff (vocals), Anne Nurmi (vocals and keyboards), Jay P. and Henrik Flyman (guitars), Yenz Leonhardt (bass), and Julien Schmidt (drums) are set to release a new album in 2025, led by the single “Avalon.” Their tour will also bring them back to Brazil for Bangers Open Air 2025.

LACRIMOSA
The band Lacrimosa was formed in 1990 by German musician Tilo Wolff, who, at just 17 years old, set out to bring new life to his poems and stories through music. The foundation of his career was built on the albums “Angst” (1991), “Einsamkeit” (1992), and “Satura” (1993). Four years later, he met Finnish artist Anne Nurmi, formerly of the band Two Witches, whose collaboration reshaped Lacrimosa’s sound, beginning with “Inferno” (1995). This evolution continued with fan-favorite albums like “Elodia” (1999), “Fassade” (2001), “Sehnsucht” (2009), and their most recent release, “Leidenschaft” (2021).
As a gothic rock band, Lacrimosa primarily uses the German language in their music. While English translations are always included in the album booklets, many international fans, especially in Brazil, may still struggle to fully grasp the lyrics. However, this language barrier does not diminish the appreciation of their Brazilian audience, which has become one of the band’s most devoted fanbases. Lacrimosa first visited Brazil in 2004 and has returned multiple times since.
Lacrimosa’s music and aesthetic evoke deep emotions, creating an experience that transcends literal understanding. Tilo Wolff acknowledges this connection, despite the language gap:
“English translations are always in the booklets, so anyone who buys the albums can understand us. But I think it’s amazing how much we are loved in Brazil. People tell me they don’t need to understand the lyrics because the music speaks for itself,” he stated.
