Kanonenfieber

Kanonenfieber will be one of the attractions at Bangers Open Air 2027, bringing one of the most unique proposals in contemporary extreme metal to the festival. Formed in 2020 in Bamberg, Germany, the band plays a style of blackened death metal defined by dark atmospheres, melodic passages, and a cinematic approach. With a visual identity centered on World War I, the project turns historical events into intense narratives about soldiers and their experiences on the battlefield.

Led by the enigmatic Noise—who handles vocals and all instruments in studio recordings—Kanonenfieber transforms real World War I documents into a brutal, visceral experience. Drawing inspiration from letters, accounts, and historical records from the era, the project resurrects the stories of soldiers who vanished amid the chaos of global conflict, giving back identity and humanity to figures forgotten by history. On stage, the members' anonymity, period uniforms, and black masks evoke the figure of the Unknown Soldier, enhancing the dark, theatrical, and immersive atmosphere that defines the band.

Musically, Kanonenfieber moves primarily within blackened death metal, incorporating elements of black metal, melodic death metal, and an epic flair. The compositions explore various atmospheres to depict the chaos, tension, and brutality of war, creating an experience that blends heavy riffs with dramatic intensity. Influences cited for the group's sound include acts like 1914, Bolt Thrower, and Minenwerfer, while their melodic structure and rich detail have also drawn comparisons to the work of Heaven Shall Burn.

The band's path began with the album Menschenmühle (2021), followed by Die Urkatastrophe (2024). In 2026, the group presented Soldatenschicksale, a release featuring reworked versions of earlier tracks alongside new compositions linked to different episodes and figures of World War I. Among the highlights is "Heizer Tenner," which tells the story from the perspective of the boiler room and engine room workers aboard the German cruiser SMS Wiesbaden during the Battle of Jutland in 1916.

Keeping the identity of its members a secret, Kanonenfieber turns its live shows into a deep immersion into the brutality of war, combining extreme metal, historical storytelling, and a striking visual aesthetic. At Bangers Open Air 2027, the band will bring a visceral vision of World War I to the stage, giving voice to anonymous soldiers and the human stories hidden behind major conflicts. With its dark atmosphere, sonic intensity, and powerful theatrical presence, the group promises to deliver one of the most impactful and distinctive moments of the festival!
