MATANZA RITUAL
A heavy-hitting blend of hardcore, metal, and country music bring to life Matanza Ritual, a band formed in 2019 by Jimmy London, singer, songwriter, actor, and TV host. After the dissolution of Matanza, London pulled together an all-star lineup from Brazil’s heavy music scene: Felipe Andreoli (bass, Angra), Antonio Araujo (guitar, ex-Korzus), and Amilcar Christófaro (drums, Torture Squad).
The band’s name is all about exorcising demons and letting loose having some fun. “Matanza Ritual was born because the need to purge our demons never dies. Every show is a cathartic release, a way to throw out the bad energy and walk away sweaty, exhausted, and happy,” says Jimmy London.
More than just a band, Matanza Ritual channels Jimmy’s relentless energy for performing, writing, and stirring up chaos onstage. “We want every show to feel like a wild, insane ritual—just like in the old Matanza days. And to make it happen, we’ve assembled the best of the best to serve as the high priests of this madness.”
Their first release was “Tempo Ruim” (2020), a fresh take on a classic track from Matanza’s fourth album, A Arte do Insulto, along with a music video introducing the band’s line-up that remains to this day. Then came out their first original track, “Sujeito Amargo” (2022), capturing the idea of conveying the discomfort and anxiety that the bitter person feels deep down.
In 2023, Matanza Ritual released the mocking and critical “Rei Morto”, calling out people who pretend to know everything, shifting their personality to fit any situation, the classic case of someone with a “king-sized ego.” Later that year, they headlined the Matanza Ritual Fest in São Paulo alongside Crypta, Black Pantera, and Malvada, and wrapped up 2023 with “Morte Súbita”, inspired by Hannah Arendt’s concept of the “banality of evil.”
Performing at major festivals such as Rock in Rio and Abril Pro Rock, as well as a tour with Massacration in 2024, Matanza Ritual promises to rock Bangers Open Air 2025.
