I Prevail is an American metalcore band formed in 2013, currently consisting of founding vocalists Brian Burkheiser and Eric Vanlerberghe, along with Steve Menoian (guitar), Dylan Bowman (guitar), Jon Eberhard (bass), and Gabe Helguera (drums).
Their debut EP, “Heart vs Mind” (2014), established the band as a rising force in the metalcore scene. One track, a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” stood out, reaching massive popularity and racking up millions of views on YouTube. Following the EP’s success, I Prevail continued to build momentum across the U.S., becoming known for their energetic and emotionally intense performances, which helped cultivate a dedicated fan base.
In 2016, the band released their debut album, “Lifelines,” which solidified I Prevail as a powerhouse in metalcore, featuring standout singles like “Scars,” “Stuck in Your Head,” and “Alone.”
Over the following years, I Prevail continued evolving musically, exploring new sounds and themes in “Trauma” (2019). The album featured hit singles such as “Bow Down” and “Breaking Down” and earned two Grammy nominations: Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance for “Bow Down.”
Diving into personal and emotional themes, including mental health struggles and resilience, has become one of I Prevail’s defining traits. Their lyrics are filled with inspiring messages while delving into the darker aspects of life, especially evident in “Deep End,” a track from “Trauma.”
Their latest full-length studio album, “True Power” (2022), delivered singles like “Body Bag,” “Bad Things,” “Self-Destruction,” “There’s Fear in Letting Go,” and “Closure.” “True Power” has been described as a genre-blending record, incorporating elements of metalcore, post-hardcore, hard rock, rap metal, and nu-metal, while also drawing influences from pop, trap, electronic, and grunge. Both vocalists, Brian Burkheiser and Eric Vanlerberghe, integrate rap vocals throughout the album.
