German vocalist Doro Pesch began her career with Snakebite, but soon joined musicians from her hometown of Düsseldorf to form Warlock, debuting in late 1983 with Burning the Witches. After receiving a positive response, she signed a contract with Phonogram/Vertigo and recorded Hellbound (1985), which became a classic, as did Triumph and Agony (1987). After facing legal issues regarding the rights to the Warlock name, Doro decided to pursue a solo career, splitting her time between Germany and the United States.
Shifting more toward hard rock, Doro debuted with Force Majeure (1989), followed by Doro (1990), True at Heart (1991), and Angels Never Die (1993). “When I started my solo career, I wanted each album to have a different message and feeling. What came from my heart and the inspiration I had at the time influenced the compositions. I wanted to eliminate any pressure, to do what I truly liked or was willing to do, and I always gave it all I had, never holding back,” the vocalist once shared with Roadie Crew magazine.
